Trans Empowerment Project

About

Jack is the Founder and Executive Director for Trans Empowerment Project is a federally recognized non-profit organization which is focused on moving the 2TIGE community (2Spirit, Trans, Intersex, and Gender Expansive) out of crisis and into empowerment by building sustainable systems of support that center members of the community who are Disabled, 2TIGE, and BIPOC to create actual equity.

Approach

Trans Empowerment Project aims to create sustainable systems of support that center the lives of those who are Disabled 2TIGE-BIPOC. We do our work by calling our accomplices in instead of out and work to foster a safe and affirming space for everyone.

Results

What began as a clothing swap in Knoxville, TN to support the local Trans community has grown to become one of the largest providers of direct aid for the 2TIGE community globally.

About

As the Distributed Organizing Technology and Digital Communities Manager, Jack was the admin of 4 of the organization’s largest Digital Organizing tools. In his role, he was tasked with helping the organization to move away from antiquated and inequitable practices.

Approach

In his work, Jack created an analysis of each of the Digital Distributed tools in their tech stack to help the organization understand where and how they had been building white supremacy into their tools.

Results

Through his work, Jack was able to successfully deconstruct the silos around each of these four tools and to reconstruct them as a single strategic digital program called ‘Digital Defenders’ which improved access to the tools and put organizing power back into the hands of the club’s organizers who needed them the most.

About

In 2018, Jack became a Digital Organizer for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. His main focus was on building power for 386k supporters from the most marginalized community members. 

Approach

Jack’s major focus was to deepen relationships with organizers and supporters through authentic messaging, mostly focused on the importance of healing and self-care.  

Results

In addition to leading the highest engagement campaign for the 2018 midterm elections, through MTV’s +one the vote, Jack was able to successfully oversee the development and implementation of a 4 part training series which resulted in the recruitment and training of 145 volunteer teams across the U.S. within 3 months for the Action Fund.
